I have applied to so many jobs over the past few months that I lost count after 600.  Most of those places didn’t return my emails, calls, or letters.  But that’s okay.

Right now, I’m looking for a career.  I’m fine with that.

But thinking too much about the negatives and focusing on them isn’t helping anyone.  After another week without much movement on the job front, I was frustrated to no end.  I didn’t curse the heavens and resign myself to a Van Wilder-esque existence of continued education.  Instead, I gave myself some work.

I retooled my portfolio, made some concept ads, tweaked my website, and made an Excel database of my music files.  All of this, save the last one, was necessary.  And after being productive and getting results, I’m ready to jump back into the deep end of the job hunt.

If you’re getting flustered and frustrated and ready to say f[orget] it, give yourself some work.  You’ll be glad you did.

And at least you’ll know that you like your boss.

I just read this great article that’s about boosting your resume power and what goes on in the head of the person who’s reading it.  Keep in mind it’s geared towards tech people, but the lessons still apply.

It’s a pretty vital piece of literature – I didn’t want to wait until Sunday for you to see it.  You’re welcome, hypothetical audience and Mr. Potato Head searchers!

Now go read it!
